New build zero carbon home

Having specified and installed green technologies and products for numerous projects, Matthew wanted to pull them all together in one flagship development – the result is a traditional-style, zero carbon home that blends well with the local architecture.

This new build family home was designed and built by Nielsens and provided Matthew an opportunity to live with and experience a vast array of green technology. In addition to the energy efficient structure (air tight and highly insulated), heating is provided by a ground source heat pump, electricity is provided by 4KW photovoltaic (PV) panels, rain water is utilised for the WCs, sunscoops provide additional natural light and mechanical ventilation heat recovery (MVHR) utilises wasted heat.

Many natural materials were used throughout the build including stone, slate, lime render and pointing, Thermafleece (sheepswool insulation), Warmcel (recycled newspaper insulation) and eco paint.

The project was shortlisted in the Premier Guarantee’s Build Quality Awards in the environmental category, which is testament to the success of this ambitious project.
